Importantly, hormone receptor expression has an effect on biological properties and affects the selection of therapies. On the basis of molecular genetics, four principal subtypes, including luminal A, luminal B, HER2-enriched (HER-2-E), and basal-like can be distinguished. Breast tumors characterized by HER-2 positivity and simultaneous expressi...

This study aim to investigate the association of breast cancer risk and prognostic factors with single nucleotide variants of the BRCA1, BRCA2, DAPK1, MMP9, TOX3, and TP53 genes in Jordanian women. Blood samples were collected from 230 Jordanian breast cancer patients for use in DNA extraction followed by genotyping and subsequent statistical analysis. We found that two single nucleotide variants (SNVs) of the BRCA2 gene, namely rs1799944 and rs766173, were significantly associated with breastfeeding status. Likewise, the rs11141901 and rs1041326 SNVs of the DAPK1 gene were linked with co-morbidity (p-value = 0.002) and fa...

Studies have indicated the significance of tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) in breast cancer; however, inconsistent results still exist. We retrospectively reviewed the macrophage distribution in 1579 breast cancer specimens with anti-CD68 or anti-CD163 immunohistochemical staining, and further analyzed the overall survival data. Furthermore, we performed a retrospective study and systematic review of the published studies on CD68- and CD163-positive macrophages in non-metastatic breast cancer. 13 studies with 5116 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Our own data revealed a high density of both CD68- and CD163...

Conclusions: NAC may have an adverse effect on breast cancer prognosis among patients with grade 2 tumors. These patients need not receive NAC, except when the patient has a strong desire for breast conservation, and this is unlikely to be achieved in the absence of NAC.

Endocrine resistance in hormone receptor positive breast cancer patients urges us to develop novel approaches such as inhibitors of the cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) 4/6 to reverse its resistance. Nowadays, three selective CDK4/6 inhibitors (Palbociclib, Ribociclib and Abemaciclib) are approved by Federal Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency for the treatment of advanced and metastatic HR+/HER2- breast cancer. However, no consistent conclusion has been reached to its application in other types of breast cancer. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to overview the clinical trials about the beneficial ef...

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by distinctive biological features that confer an aggressive clinical behavior. In TNBC patients, the absence of well-defined driver pathways such as hormonal receptor expression or hyperactivation of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) significantly reduce the spectrum of therapeutic options, which are currently mainly confined to chemotherapy. Thus far, median overall survival for patients with metastatic TNBC is about 9-12 months with conventional cytotoxic agents. However, the heterogeneity recently revealed at a gene expression level inside the TNBC...
