L-arginine effect on inflammatory mediators: A systematic review of randomized controlled clinical trials. Int J Vitam Nutr Res. 2019 Nov 06;:1-9 Authors: Mirhafez SR, Hariri M Abstract L-arginine is an important factor in several physiological and biochemical processes. Recently, scientists studied L-arginine effect on inflammatory mediators such as C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). We conducted a systematic review on randomized controlled trials assessing L-arginine effect on inflammatory mediators. We searched data bases including Google scholar, ISI web of science, SCOPUS, and PubMed/Medline up to April 2019. Randomized clinical trials assessing the effect of L-arginine on inflammatory mediators in human adults were included. Our search retrieved eleven articles with 387 participants. Five articles were on patients with cancer and 6 articles were on adults without cancer. L-arginine was applied in enteral form in 5 articles and in oral form in 6 articles. Eight articles were on both genders, two articles were on women, and one article was on men. L-arginine could not reduce inflammatory mediators among patients with and without cancer except one article which indicated that taking L-arginine for 6 months decreased IL-6 among cardiopathic nondiabetic patients. ConclusionsOral complications in HSCT survivors are common and may include GVHD, dry mouth, and taste changes. All patients must be screened prior to HSCT and followed up by a dentist periodically to assess the oral health status and modify treatment, if needed.

ConclusionsIn our cohort, vitamin D serum levels did not seem to play a role in HPV-positive OPC, OC, or OPC in general. Further larger studies are needed to evaluate the potential association between vitamin D deficiency and head and neck cancer risk.

ConclusionsHere, we reported a series of 29 cases of MRONJ with related mandibular or palatal tori among 391 consecutive patients in the Copenhagen ONJ Cohort . We documented that 59% of these cases were associated with trauma, and that in some cases, trauma was preventable (e.g., trauma from impression taking and intubation). Dentists as well as anesthesiologists should be aware of the presence of tori in patients on antiresorptive therapy. Surgical treatment was more successful (100%) compared with nonsurgical treatment (40%).

ConclusionsThe correlation of MIF with the severity of OM is compatible with the role of MIF as a proinflammatory protein. This seems to be the first study to describe this association; therefore, future prospective studies would be ideal to observe pre- and post-RT alterations in salivary MIF levels to validate this result and better understand the role of MIF in the pathogenesis of OM.
