Guideline-directed therapies for comorbidities and clinical outcomes among individuals with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsIn AF patients, there is underuse of GDT for non-AF comorbidities. The association between GDT use and outcomes was strongest in heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea patients where use of GDT was associated with lower mortality and less AF progression.

Authors: Lee YH, Jang HW, Park CH, An SM, Lee EK, Choi BM, Noh GJ Abstract BACKGROUND: The aim of intraoperative fluid therapy is to avoid both hypovolemia and hypervolemia; however, the patient's exact volume status is difficult to determine during surgery. Fluid optimization guided by stroke volume variation (SVV) has been widely used in patients undergoing major open abdominal surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in plasma volume before and after surgery following SVV-guided fluid therapy. METHODS: Patients were randomly allocated into one of two groups according to the SVV criteria for...
Authors: Lionetti V, Barile L Abstract Over the last 20 years increasing number of patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy underwent different types of elective non-cardiac and cardiac surgery. Despite surgery is safer today than in the past, rate of perioperative major adverse cardiovascular events is still attracting significant attention from both clinicians and researchers. The perioperative myocardial infarction (PMI), a permanent damage of the heart, is a major cause of short and long term morbidity and mortality in current surgical populations. Although it is primarily the result of local myocardial is...
CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative acupuncture at HT7 and ear Shen Men did not reduce PAED scores after myringotomy tube placement. Based on these data, it is therefore unlikely that alarger study of the same design would demonstrate a significant effect of intraoperative acupuncture on emergence delirium after brief sevoflurane anesthesia. However, other acupuncture points or techniques could be considered. PMID: 31808657 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbuelizzAbstractBackgroundMiddle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus that was identified in 2012 in Saudi Arabia. It is associated with significant mortality and morbidity. We identified factors associated with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS‐CoV) infection among suspected cases presented with sign and symptoms of upper respiratory infection or exposure to the virus. We also looked at the impact of medication history on vi...
