Defining Polysaccharide Antibody Deficiency: Measurement of Anti-Pneumococcal Antibodies and Anti- Salmonella typhi Antibodies in a Cohort of Patients with Recurrent Infections

ConclusionThe lack of evidence-based gold standards for the diagnosis of SAD represents a challenge in clinical practice. In our cohort, we confirmed the insufficient correlation between different methods of specific PPV response measurement, and showed that theS. typhi Vi response was not contributive. Caution in the interpretation of results is warranted until more reliable diagnostic methods can be validated.

In this study we found blocking autophagy led to increased CP growth in both macrophages and mouse embryonic fibroblasts. The patient is a 17-year-old girl referred to our primary immunodeficiency consult service after the diagnosis of a complicated left deltoid abscess due to Salmonella Typhimurium. Three months earlier she had noticed a stiff lesion in the left upper arm similar to an insect sting, which was diagnosed as cellulitis and treated with oral flucloxacillin for 8 days. Two weeks later she presented with fever and a local abscess. The abscess was drained and treated with oral amoxicillin-clavulanic acid.
