Significant Diagnostic Value of Free-Serum PSA (FPSA)/Prostate-Specific Antigen Density (PSAD) and (F/T)/PSAD for Prostate Cancer of the Chinese Population in a Single Institution.

Significant Diagnostic Value of Free-Serum PSA (FPSA)/Prostate-Specific Antigen Density (PSAD) and (F/T)/PSAD for Prostate Cancer of the Chinese Population in a Single Institution. Med Sci Monit. 2019 Nov 06;25:8345-8351 Authors: Nan LB, Yin XT, Gao JP Abstract BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of (F/T)/PSAD for prostate cancer detection in the Chinese population. MATERIAL AND METHODS Data were collected retrospectively from patients with prostate cancer or benign prostatic hyperplasia from July 2009 to September 2014. SPSS 19.0 software was used for the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), and calculating sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive values (PPV) and negative predictive values (NPV), respectively. Comparison of the area under ROC (AUC) was performed using the MedCalc v. 10.4.7.0 software. RESULTS A total of 660 patients (including 251 patients with prostate cancer and 409 patients with prostatic hyperplasia) were included. Prostate volume (PV), prostate-specific antigen density (PSAD), free-serum PSA (FPSA)/PSAD, and free-to-total PSA (F/T)/PSAD had similar AUC (P>0.05), and had significantly higher AUC (P0.05), and significantly higher than the PV and PSAD (P

Authors: Guan Z, Song Y, Ma J, Li F, Zhao X, Liang G, An H, Pu J Abstract Long non-coding (lnc)RNA NCK1 antisense RNA 1 (NCK1-AS1) has been characterized as an oncogene in cervical cancer, while its role in prostate cancer (PC) remains unknown. It was revealed in the present study that plasma NCK1-AS1 was upregulated in patients with PC when compared with patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and healthy controls. Upregulation of NCK1-AS1 distinguished patients with PC from patients with BPH and healthy controls. Overexpression of NCK1-AS1 led to significantly upregulated transforming growth factor (TGF)...

This study investigated the protein expression profile of STC1 in PCa and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) samples and STC1 signalling during cell proliferation and cell death in vitro using cell lines. We found higher levels of STC1 in PCa when compared to BPH tissue and that STC1 inhibited forskolin stimulation of cAMP in PC-3 cells. A monoclonal antibody against STC1 was effective in reducing cell proliferation, in promoting cell cycle arrest, and in increasing apoptosis in the same cells. Since STC1 acts as a regulator of prostatic tissue signalling, we suggest that this protein is a novel candidate biomarker for p...

Purpose of review To summarize recent publications on the topic of laser in urology and explore new developments which may impact the future role of lasers in surgery. Recent findings Ho: Yttrium-aluminium garnet (YAG) laser with Moses technology allows less retropulsion during a lithotripsy, yet its efficacy needs to be tested in clinical trials. Data on the efficacy of this device for benign prostatic obstruction treatment is also pending. A new promising generation of laser systems – thulium-fiber (Tm-fiber) lasers – has been introduced. Tm-fiber has already been shown to be effective and well tolerated...

This report in an immunocompetent 72-year-old man adds to the clinical spectrum of the five prior reported cases. A low threshold for prostatic biopsy led to a histological evaluation and subsequent microbiological confirmation of TB. This attests to the value of such an approach in arriving at the correct diagnosis and the institution of appropriate anti-tuberculous therapy even amongst immune-competent men. The substitution of highly specialized prostate epithelial cells by tumor cells results in dramatic decrease in ACE production in prostate tissues. We performed detailed characterization of ACE status in prostate tissues from patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and pro...

AbstractMultiparametric MRI (mpMRI) of the prostate has evolved to be an integral component for the diagnosis, risk stratification, staging, and targeting of prostate cancer. However, anatomic and histologic mimics of prostate cancer on mpMRI exist. Anatomic feature that mimic prostate cancer on mpMRI include anterior fibromuscular stroma, normal central zone, periprostatic venous plexus, and thickened surgical capsule (transition zone pseudocapsule). Benign conditions such as post-biopsy hemorrhage, prostatitis or inflammation, focal prostate atrophy, benign prostatic hyperplasia nodules, and prostatic calcifications can ...
