Diffuse variants of scalp Lichen Planopilaris: clinical, trichoscopic and histopathologic features of 40 patients.

Fibrosing Alopecia in a Pattern Distribution and Cicatricial Pattern Hair Loss are recently described forms of Lichen Planopilaris, characterized by pattern hair loss and destruction of miniaturized/intermediate hair follicles. A new variant of Lichen Planopilaris is described with small alopecic areas appearing diffusely throughout the scalp due to destruction of terminal follicles. In patients with diffuse hair thinning and a long lasting history of scalp erythema, itching or dysesthesia, it is strongly recommended to perform a trichoscopy-guided biopsy.
