Association between Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms and Long-Term Cardiac Outcomes in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome: Effects of Depression Comorbidity and Treatment.

CONCLUSION: Evaluating OCS and depression is recommended during the early phase of ACS. Treatment for OCS may improve the long-term cardiac outcomes of patients with ACS. PMID: 31684712 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ROCD may focus on the relationship itself (i.e., relationship-centered) or the perceived flaws of the relationship partner (i.e., partner-focused). Partner-focused obsessions have been shown to center on domains such as intelligence, appearance, sociality, emotional regulation, competence and morality....

ConclusionsRumination is known to be associated with poor prognosis in mental health. This study suggests that rumination is a maladaptive coping style associated not only with worry, distress and illness severity, but also with socioeconomic status. Also, rumination demonstrated a specific association with panic disorder.

Conclusions: Our data are in accordance with previous findings outlining that N + insomniacs have higher PSQI scores than N-. Our results do not confirm the suggested association between napping and depressive or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Conversely, we found a statistically significant difference (p = 0.0014) in EAT scores in N + and N-. Hyperarousal and REM sleep instability in insomniac patients may create an unbalance of the neuroendocrine hypothalamic regulation leading to an appetite alteration. In this study, we computationally evaluated group-level dosage for dTMS to characterize the targeted deep brain regions to overcome the limitations of using individualized head models to characterize coil performance in a population. We used an inter-subject registration method adapted to the deep brain regions that enable projection of computed electric fields (EFs) from individual realistic head models (n = 18) to the average space of deep brain regions. The computational results showed consistent group-level hotspots of the EF in the deep brain regions. The halo circular assembly coils induced the highest EFs in deep br...

CONCLUSIONS: Obsessive-compulsive symptoms are common in persons with epilepsy and are associated with severe epilepsy, temporal lobe seizures, and the use of topiramate and lamotrigine. Specifically, the use of lamotrigine may aggravate OCS, whereas the use of topiramate may have beneficial effects on OCS. PMID: 31805509 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

amy Subramaniam This is a preliminary study to examine the factor structure, reliability, and validity of an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) screening tool for use in the Malaysian setting. A total of 199 Malaysian adults were recruited for this study. After cleaning and normalizing the data, 190 samples were left to be analyzed. Principle component analysis using varimax rotation was then performed to examine various factors derived from psychometric tools commonly used to assess OCD patients. The screening tool exhibited three factors that fit the description of obsessions and compulsions from the Diagnostic and ...

Authors: Beszłej JA, Siwicki D, Fila-Witecka K, Wieczorek T, Piotrowski P, Weiser A, Tabakow P, Rymaszewska J Abstract Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) occurs in 2-3% of the general population. Due to its chronicity and high resistance to standard treatment, alternative clinical management based on neuroscientific findings has been sought. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a modern and dynamic approach in the treatment of OCD giving hope to patients who are resistant to current pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy based treatments. This paper presents two cases of patients diagnosed with refractory OCD who received ...

Authors: Beszłej JA, Wieczorek T, Kobyłko A, Piotrowski P, Siwicki D, Weiser A, Fila-Witecka K, Rymaszewska J, Tabakow P Abstract Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a treatment method that is currently getting more and more attention from psychiatrists. It has proven to be efficacious and safe in the treatment of neurological disorders, mainly Parkinson's disease (PD), dystonia and essential tremor. DBS has very often contributed to successful treatment in cases that had proved resistant to all other methods of treatment. Nowadays treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is the main psychiatric indica...
