Incidence of Bloodstream Infections, Length of Hospital Stay, and Survival in Patients With Recurrent Clostridioides difficile Infection Treated With Fecal Microbiota Transplantation or Antibiotics: A Prospective Cohort Study
Study (n=290) reports fewer patients in FMT group v antibiotic group developed blood-stream infections during 90-day follow-up (5% vs 22%). Patients in the FMT group had shorter mean length of hospitalisation (13.4 v 27.8 days; difference 14 days [CI 9 to 20 days]).
Publication date: September 2019Source: Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease, Volume 26, Issue 5Author(s): Tiffany Wong, Simin GoralLupus nephritis (LN) is the cause of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) for 1.9% of the ESKD population in the United States. Although the incidence rates of ESKD from LN stopped rising in recent years, racial disparities in waiting time, pre-emptive kidney transplant, and transplant outcomes still exist. Patients with LN who progress to ESKD tend to be female, of African ancestry, and young. Kidney transplantation is safe in this population and associated with a substantial survival benefit, prima...
Conclusions: The present study seeks to provide new insight in the pathophysiological mechanisms linking reduced kidney function to cardiovascular disease. In addition, we aim to enlighten predictors of adverse cardiovascular outcome in living kidney donors. The study is registered at Clinical-Trials.gov (identifier: NCT03729557). This article provides an overview of current findings published in the recent five years regarding the relationship between tacrolimus exposure and variation therein and the development of dnDSA.Expert opinion: In this review we describe how combining data on tacrolimus intra-patient variability and mean pre-dose concentration may be an effective tool to identify kidney transplant recipients who are at higher risk of developing dnDSA. We report on their relevance to alloimmunity and on the effects of immunosuppressive drugs on these immunocompetent cell populations.Expert opinion: Growing knowledge about the actions of Tfh and Tfr allows for a better understanding of the immunological mechanisms of ABMR after organ transplantation. This understanding feeds the hypothesis that immunosuppressive drugs targeting the actions of Tfh cells have huge therapeutic potential. This new concept in the treatment of the humoral rejection response will improve graft and patient survival after organ transplantation. PMID: 31721600 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study aimed to determine the effects of back massage on postoperative vital signs, pain, and comfort levels in liver transplant patients.MethodsA quasi-experimental model with a pretest, a posttest, and a control group was used. The population of the study comprised adult patients who had liver transplantation for the first time. The study sample comprised 84 adult patients who had liver transplantation: 42 experimental (study group) and 42 control group, selected by power analysis and the random sampling method from the population. The data were collected between May and September 2016 using the short-form McGill Pai...
