Is it time to rethink the allergy training requirements for pediatric residents?

The past several decades have seen an increase in both prevalence and complexity of allergic diseases in children1. Unfortunately, the number of physicians pursuing training fellowships in Allergy and Immunology (AI) has steadily declined2. As such, primary care pediatricians (PCPs) play a crucial role in managing childhood allergic disorders, often representing the only physicians available for evaluation3. Yet, pediatrician-reported comfort in management of allergic conditions remains insufficient4.
