This study investigated the association of vitamin D level with neurologic outcome and mortality after resuscitation from SCA. Patients and Methods: We enrolled patients who were successfully resuscitated from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest of presumed cardiac cause in Severance Cardiovascular Hospital as a prospective cohort registry. Baseline blood samples including pH, lactate, and vitamin D were obtained without fluid replacement just after hospital admission. Outcome was assessed by cerebral performance category (CPC) score at 1 month after SCA. Favorable outcome was defined as survival with CPC score of 1 or 2, wh...

Authors: Câmara AB, Brandão IA Abstract The active vitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) acts through a nuclear receptor to perform several functions in cellular metabolism. 1,25(OH)2D participates directly in calcium homeostasis, regulates the immune system, nervous system, blood pressure, insulin secretion, among others. Vitamin D deficiency could also be associated with several diseases and increased cellular oxidative damage. The present study aimed to investigate whether lipid peroxidation and/or protein oxidation are affected by vitamin D deficiency and whether sunlight exposure/diet, gender, and age might inf...

This study aimed to investigate vitamin D levels in patients suffering SSNHL and its effect on response to treatment.Materials and methodsThis cross-sectional study was performed on two groups of case (34 SSNHL patients) and control (34 healthy subjects without risk of hearing loss). All patient information such as age, sex, audiogram illustration of hearing frequency and the level of vitamin D were recorded at baseline. Patients with SSNHL received routine treatments such as 10 days of 1 mg/kg/day steroid and the response or lack of complete response to treatment was recorded and analyzed according to the audiometry.R...

Abstract Atrial fibrillation is a common type of arrhythmia and is an important cause of stroke and heart failure. vitamin D is an emerging risk factor of AF, and is implicated in the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation. It has been established that this vitamin is extensively involved in the regulation of both the renin angiotensin aldosterone system and the immune system. Epidemiological studies have not yet reached a consensus on the possible association between vitamin D deficiency and atrial fibrillation. Better research designs and methods can further clarify the relationship between the two.

BCG stimulation promotes dendritic cell proliferation and expression of VDR and CYP27B1 in vitamin D‑deficient mice. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Oct 30;: Authors: Yang H, Zhang H, Li Y, Xiang L, Liu J Abstract Vitamin D deficiency may lead to an increased risk of tuberculosis. In the present study, the effects of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection on dendritic cells (DCs) derived from vitamin D‑deficient mice or normal control mice were investigated. A vitamin D‑deficient mouse model was established, and bone marrow‑derived DCs (BMDCs) were isolated and treated with GM‑CSF and in...
