Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint degenerative disease, which is prominent in the middle-aged and elderly population, often leading to repeated pain in the joints of patients and seriously affecting the life quality of patients. At present, the treatment of OA mainly depends on the surgery and drug treatment. Nevertheless, these treatments still face many problems, such as surgical safety, complications, and drug side effects. Exosomes can be secreted and released by multiple cell types and have lipid bilayer membranes and contain abundant biological molecules, including proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. ...

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of multiple injections of LR-PRP for the treatment of KOA and determine an LR-PRP treatment protocol for KOA in actual clinical practice.HypothesisWe hypothesized that using abundant LR-PRP would improve outcomes in patients with KOA.Study DesignProspective, cross-sectional, interventional, randomized trial.MethodsIntra-articular LR-PRP injections were administered to 50 knees. Patients received six injections of LR-PRP in total, which were administered at 4-week intervals. Patients were evaluated based on clinical outcomes, including visual analog scale (VAS) scores, Knee injur...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Depression, anxiety, and pain catastrophizing have been associated with worse pain and function in studies of patients with de Quervain's tenosynovitis. Illness perceptions are the patient's thoughts and feelings about their illness. More negative perceptions of the illness such as the illness having a long duration or serious consequences are associated with worse physical function in patients with hand osteoarthritis. It is currently unknown whether these psychological factors play a similar role in de Quervain's. We chose to study patients who have tried nonoperative management and have cho...

AbstractThumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis (TCMC-OA) is a progressively disabling, debilitating condition presenting with thumb base pain and hand functional impairment. Platelet-rich plasma has been used widely for the management of musculoskeletal pathologies, OA being among them. To our knowledge, only a few cases have been previously reported on this topic until now. A 59-year-old male professional pianist presented with chronic, mild onset of right thumb base pain involving a progressive lack of pinch strength in his right hand, and severe difficulties with playing. Three PRP injections were administered to the TCMC...

CONCLUSIONS: Older adults with symptomatic OA present multiple concomitant issues, including other diseases, marked pain, poly-pharmacy, and often poor psychological and/or socio-economical status. According to the above-described evidence, it is crucial that the approach to those patients is multidisciplinary and based on the use of dedicated tools. A combination of exercise, mechanical support and properly selected analgesic treatment will greatly help the management of the OA patient, improving at the same time his/her quality of life.
