Amino acids as stabilizers for spray-dried simvastatin powder for inhalation

ConclusionBoth the spray-dried SV-LEU and SV-TRP exhibited better aerosol performance and storage stability compared to the spray-dried SV-LYS. Compared to TRP, LEU exhibited better protection of spray-dried amorphous SV from re-crystallization, which could be attributed to the formation of a LEU crystalline shell covering SV upon the spray drying process.Graphical abstract

Abstract Objective: To evaluate clinical associations of anti-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (anti-HMGCR) antibody (Ab) and statin exposure in necrotizing myopathy (NM) patients. Methods: NM without a known myositis-specific autoantibody (MSA) was ascertained from a large single-centre myositis database between 1985 and 2012. A comparison NM cohort included 32 anti-SRP+ autoantibody patients, and other control groups included 74 non-NM myositis patients and 21 non-myositis controls. Sera from all cases and controls were tested using a validated anti-HMGCR enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Clinical f...

Researchers are using artificial intelligence to measure a common marker of heart disease via lung cancer screenings. The research was presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). Low-dose chest CT is approved for lung cancer screening in high-risk people, such as long-time smokers. While these CT scans are intended to diagnose lung cancer, coronary artery calcium, a measure of plaque in the arteries, is also visible on CT. The coronary artery calcium score derived from CT is a well-established measure that helps doctors decide who should get cholesterol-lowering preventive medicatio...

ilip H. Elsinga There is an unmet need for late-stage 18F-fluorination strategies to label molecules with a wide range of relevant functionalities to medicinal chemistry, in particular (hetero)arenes, aiming to obtain unique in vivo information on the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) using positron emission tomography (PET). In the last few years, Cu-mediated oxidative radiofluorination of arylboronic esters/acids arose and has been successful in small molecules containing relatively simple (hetero)aromatic groups. However, this technique is sparsely used in the radiosynthesis of clinically significant molecul...

Publication date: Available online 14 October 2019Source: Microchemical JournalAuthor(s): A. Parsa, H. HeliAbstractWrinkled nanostructure of nickel was electrodeposited from a deep eutectic solvent comprising choline chloride and urea (reline) under golvanostatic conditions. Field emission scanning electron microscopic images were taken to evaluate the shape and size of the nickel nanostructure. The nickel nanostructure was then converted into the corresponding oxides, and the kinetics of charge transfer across the interface of the nanostructured oxides/an alkaline electrolyte was then studied. The electron transfer coeffi...

We examined human lung tissue from COPD patients and normal control subjects, and found a substantial increase in p16-expressing alveolar cells in COPD patients. Using a transgenic mouse deficient for p16, we demonstrated that lungs of mice lacking p16 were structurally and functionally resistant to CS-induced emphysema due to activation of IGF1/Akt regenerative and protective signaling.
