Moving From Recommendations to Impact in Post-acute and Long-term Care Research

Articles published in JAMDA aim to inform practice and policy in post-acute and long-term care. Three of the articles in the November 2019 issue serve as a good illustration of the promise of research in that regard, and how that promise can be augmented. The intent of this editorial is to encourage researchers to take the next step toward impact in their work by more fully and thoughtfully presenting this next step as part of their recommendations. In the paragraphs below, we summarize 3 articles in the current issue, providing examples of how each of a retrospective cohort study, prospective observational study, and cluster controlled intervention trial can move further from recommendation to impact.
