Moving Ultrasound First in Women ’s Health

It is hard to believe that it was in 1984, and again in 1991, when one of us was a guest editor of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America on two issues focused on “Diagnostic Ultrasound.” Within those 2 issues, there were only 3 articles that were dedicated to imaging in the nonpregnant woman. Thirty years later, we now have an entire issue focused on ultrasound in the gynecologic patient. Even with 17 articles allotted, we did not find sufficient room to fully cover the wealth of knowledge that has been accrued over the last few decades.
