GlaxoSmithKline announces start of phase III trial of gepotidacin in treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) and urogenital gonorrhoea

Gepotidacin is first in new chemical class of antibiotics called triazaacenaphthylene bacterial topoisomerase inhibitors. Development programme comprises two separate studies, EAGLE-1 (vs. ceftriaxone + azithromycin in gonorrhoea) and EAGLE-2 (vs. nitrofurantoin for UTI).
