Breast myeloid sarcoma after allogeneic stem cell transplantation for acute myelomonocytic leukemia - case report.

We present the case of a 30-year-old female diagnosed with acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AML M4), with complete remission (CR) after chemotherapy, followed by allo-SCT for consolidation. After five months, the patient presented right breast tumors. Ultrasound-guided biopsy of the breast lesion displayed diffuse infiltration of undifferentiated tumor cells, with blastic granulocytic features, strongly immunopositive for cluster of differentiation (CD) 45, CD99, CD34 and myeloperoxidase (MPO) and negative for all epithelial markers [MNF116, cytokeratin 7 (CK7), estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), E-cadherin]. The final diagnosis was AML relapse with breast MS. After multiple leukemia relapses with breast MS, the patient died with cerebral bleeding secondary to severe thrombocytopenia. Authors: Atzema CL, Jackevicius CA, Chong A, Dorian P, Ivers NM, Parkash R, Austin PC Abstract BACKGROUND: Patients with atrial fibrillation frequently seek emergency care. Rates of guideline-concordant oral anticoagulant therapy for stroke prevention are suboptimal in the community. We assessed the association between prescribing of oral anticoagulants in the emergency department (relative to referral to a longitudinal care provider for treatment initiation) and long-term use of oral anticoagulants. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study performed at 15 hospitals in Ontario, Canada, involved patients aged 65...

Various types of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were screened for high extraction efficiencies and DES composing of proline and propylene glycol at 1:3 M ratio was selected as it exhibited highest yields. Extraction conditions were st...

Authors: Hill BG, Shiva S, Ballinger S, Zhang J, Darley-Usmar VM Abstract It is now becoming clear that human metabolism is extremely plastic and varies substantially between healthy individuals. Understanding the biochemistry that underlies this physiology will enable personalized clinical interventions related to metabolism. Mitochondrial quality control and the detailed mechanisms of mitochondrial energy generation are central to understanding susceptibility to pathologies associated with aging including cancer, cardiac and neurodegenerative diseases. A precision medicine approach is also needed to evaluate the ...

Less is known about the function of BTK in the context of stem cell factor (SCF)-induced KIT signaling. In bone marrow-derived MCs (BMMCs), Ag stimulation caused intense phosp...

Authors: Xiu H, Zhao CY, Liu FG, Sun XG, Sun H, Liu XS Abstract Background: Endoscopic submucosal excavation (ESE), endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) and submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER) have been widely applied to upper gastrointestinal submucosal tumors (SMTs) originating from the muscularis propria (MP) layer in recent years. But until now, there are few studies that comparing the efficacy and safety of three endoscopic therapy methods.Method: From January 2013 to August 2018, a total of 218 patients with SMTs who underwent ESE, EFTR or STER were enrolled in this retrospective study. Cli...

As one of the key emerging immunotherapies, anti-PD-1/PD-L1 treatment has brought survival benefits to many advanced cancer patients. However, in pancreatic cancer, immunotherapy-based approaches have not achieved a favorable clinical effect because of mismatch repair deficiencies. Therefore, the majority of pancreatic tumors are regarded as immune-quies...

The aim is to explore the role of lncRNA potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member 1 overlapping transcript 1 (KCNQ1OT1) and associated novel mechanisms in the progression and chemoresistance of AML.Main methodsThe expression of KCNQ1OT1, miR-193a-3p, and Tspan3 was measured by qRT-PCR. The values of IC50 for adriamycin (ADR) and the ability of proliferation were an...

We present two cases which are specific for unusual location of Burkitt lymphoma in the colon and stomach, in immunocompetent patients with negative Epstein-Barr virus tests. Also, one of the patients presented is one of the oldest ever reported with abdominal Burkitt lymphoma, while the other patient is an example of diagnostic difficulties in distinguishing Burkitt lymphoma from similar lymphomas. Due to the rapidly growing tumors and urgent need for cytoreductive surgery, it is crucial to consider the diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma even in atypical localizations or absence of the common risk factors associated with Burki...
