Autoimmune disease development before and after cutaneous lupus erythematosus diagnosis.

Autoimmune disease development before and after cutaneous lupus erythematosus diagnosis. Br J Dermatol. 2019 Oct 24;: Authors: Shi KY, Kunzler E, Hynan LS, Chong BF Abstract Dear Editor, previous studies have shown patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) harbor an increased risk for developing additional autoimmune diseases. We recently reported in a cross-sectional study that 17.8% of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) patients without SLE had co-existing autoimmune disease(s). Thus, we conducted a retrospective cohort study to characterize the timing and prevalence of autoimmune diseases in patients in relation to their CLE diagnosis. We also identified demographic and clinical factors associated with additional autoimmune conditions. PMID: 31647114 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
