Antihypertensive Medication Use in Older Adults at Risk for Hip Fracture

To the Editor The recent Clinical Update on hip fractures in older adults included a figure on managing medications in older adults at risk for fracture. In the section on deprescribing fall-related medications, one item listed is “antihypertensives if blood pressure is below target or the patient has orthostatic hypotension.” This unreferenced recommendation does not reflect an evidence-based assessment of antihypertensive medication as a risk factor for falls and fractures.
