OBJECTIVE: To perform a descriptive analysis of preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) cases attended in a tertiary hospital. METHOD: Retrospective analysis of medical records and laboratory tests of patients admitted to a Brazilian tertiary hospital between 2006 and 2011, with a confirmed diagnosis of PPROM and gestational age (GA) at delivery

Conclusion: Chinese women had a substantially lower risk of venous thromboembolism during pregnancy and the postpartum period compared to that of Caucasians. The occurrence of pregnancy-related venous thromboembolism was largely confined to the early pregnancy period, probably related to the adoption of thromboprophylaxis, a lower rate of Cesarean section, and early mobilization. We report a case of a 36-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus and a one-year of primary infertility. Following oral ovulation induction cycles and IUI, diagnosis of heterotopic cervical pregnancy was made by ultrasonography at 7.4 weeks of gestation. Laser ablation of the cervical pregnancy was performed achieving adequate homeostasis at the implantation site and preserving the intrauterine pregnancy. A healthy infant was delivered at 36 0/7 wks by cesarean-section.Laser ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that appears to lead to successful outcomes in treatment of heterotopic cervical pregnancy.

CONCLUSIONS For LTPs with a Bishop's score of 0-3, dinoprostone was superior to oxytocin for IOL with a lower rate of cesarean delivery, but both agents had a similar outcome for women with a Bishop's score of 4-6. These findings may have implications for the choice of agent used in IOL when dinoprostone is unavailable. PMID: 31719513 [PubMed - in process]

AbstractThere are few case reports in which circulating levels of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1), placental growth factor (PlGF), and soluble endoglin (sEng) were measured before the onset of super-imposed preeclampsia in women with hemodialysis. A 40-year-old Japanese nulliparous women with hemodialysis due to diabetic nephropathy became pregnant by frozen embryo transfer. Intensive hemodialysis was started at 5  weeks of gestation. Her blood pressure (BP) in the first trimester was around 130/80 mmHg. At 20+3 weeks, she was admitted for close monitoring; her BP was 137/75  mmHg. Her BP increas...

AbstractBackgroundChild birth is one of the most important events in a mother ’s life. Different factors influence whether a child is delivered by cesarean or normal vaginal delivery. Despite the complications of cesarean, demand for this type of delivery is increasing. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of personal traits on the choice of the delivery m ethod based on HEXACO personality model.MethodsTwo hundred and ten pregnant women in some health centers in Tehran volunteered to participate in this research. To identify their personality dimensions, the pregnant women first filled out HEXACO pe...

AbstractPurposeThe ectopic pregnancy (EP) rate after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) is higher than after spontaneous conception. The reason for the increased risk of EP is not clear. We aimed to determine the risk factors associated with EP in patients undergoing IVF-ET.MethodsThis was a 1:4 matched case –control study that enrolled 225 EP patients and 900 matched intrauterine pregnancy patients from the ART center of Northwest Women’s and Children’s Hospital from January 2014 to April 2018. Conditional logistic regression was used to analyze the association between risk factors and EP, a...

Conclusions: Spinal anesthesia with a median or paramedian approach at cesarean section has no effect on the incidence of PDPH, but we believe that there has been a need for further studies with larger or different patient populations.

Abstract A 27-year-old woman with sudden back pain was transported to our hospital. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed pregnancy of 28 weeks ’ gestation. Computed tomography demonstrated a type A aortic dissection. Because of progressive fetal deterioration, an emergency cesarean section was forced to perform. The next day, simple hysterectomy followed by an aortic procedure was completed. Valve-sparing aortic replacement and total arch replacement were employed as central operations. The mother and baby are well 9 months postoperatively. Although the strategy for acute type A aortic dissection during pregnancy is co...

We present the case of a pregnant woman admitted for sudden and severe abdominal pain at 34 weeks gestation. Her previous medical history included endometriosis suspected by clinical symptoms and ultrasound. During cesarean section, performed by sustained fetal bradycardia, a large volume hemoperitoneum and multiple hemorrhagic foci in the posterior uterine wall were detected. Although rare, spontaneous hemoperitoneum may occur in pregnancy, especially in women with endometriosis. Thus, a prompt suspicion and expedite intervention are needed to improve maternal and fetal outcomes. PMID: 31703187 [PubMed - in process]
