Efficacy and tolerability of anti-programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibody (Avelumab) treatment in advanced thymoma

ConclusionThese results demonstrate anti-tumor activity of PD-L1 inhibition in patients with relapsed thymoma accompanied by a high frequency of immune-related adverse events. Pre-treatment immune cell subset populations differ between responders and non-responders.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov -NCT01772004. Date of registration – January 21, 2013.

Abstract Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have emerged as a new immune regulator at the feto-maternal interface. Although the phenotypes and functions of these cells were primarily studied in pathological conditions such as cancers and infections, new evidence has underscored their beneficial roles in homeostasis and physiological circumstances such as normal pregnancy. In this regard, studies have shown an increased number of MDSCs, particularly granulocytic MDSCs, at the feto-maternal interface. These cells participate in maintaining immunological tolerance between mother and semi-allograft fetus through...

We report an extremely rare case of LEMS associated with thymic small cell carcinoma. A 71-year-old man was referred to our institution for a mediastinal tumor and a 2-month history of ptosis, fatigue, and gait disorder. Based on the radiological findings, thymoma associated with LEMS was diagnosed, and extended thymectomy was performed. After surgery, the patient’s symptoms had not improved. Anticholinesterase treatment alleviated his symptoms.

Authors: Zhang K, Liu W, Li Y, Zhang K, Gao X, Wang J Abstract Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is typically characterized as a paraneoplastic syndrome associated with small cell lung carcinoma. The presence of LEMS in association with other neuroendocrine lung tumors, including carcinoids or large cell lung carcinoma, is highly unusual. The present case study reports the very rare case of a patient with mediastinal small cell cancer combined with LEMS. A 53-year-old man was admitted to the Bethune First Hospital with a 3-month history of weakness in the lower extremities that had become aggravated during t...

We report a case in which NICTH caused by recurrence and pulmonary metastases from SC in the pelvic cavity, and the computed tomography scan revealed multiple pelvic masses and multiple large masses in the pulmonary fields. During the treatment of intestinal obstruction, the patient presented paroxysmal loss of consciousness and sweating. Her glucose even reached 1.22 mmol/L while the serum glycosylated hemoglobin was normal and previous history of diabetes or use of oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin denied. The laboratory examination showed that the low level of insulin, C-peptide, and growth hormone levels in the co...
