k M Abstract OBJECTIVES: Abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) is a serious complication after abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. The aim was to investigate outcome among subgroups and factors associated with outcome, with emphasis on the duration of intra-abdominal hypertension before treatment. METHODS: Since 2008, ACS and decompressive laparotomy (DL) after AAA repair are registered prospectively in the Swedish vascular registry (Swedvasc). Registry data and case records were reviewed. Subgroups were defined by main pathophysiological finding at DL, timing of DL after AAA repair, and treatment modality...

We have assessed outcomes of open and endovascular repair of this pathology.MethodsBetween 1997 and 2016, 152 adult patients presented with KD, 87 had no intervention, and 65 underwent repair with open repair (n=55, 19 elephant trunk (ET) procedures, (9 wit...

We describe a 7-year-old boy who sustained a blunt thoracic aortic injury following a rollover motor vehicle crash where the vehicle fell 200 feet down an embankment. The chest x-ray on arrival showed widening of the superior mediastinum, a left-sided hemothorax, and first rib fracture. The screening CTA of the chest revealed bilateral pulmonary contusions, a large left hemothorax, and evidence of aortic injury with active contrast extravasation. The patient was intubated due to respiratory distress and had a left chest tube placed. The patient became hypotensive with greater than 1.5 L of blood from the chest tube, so a...

CONCLUSIONS: This nationwide multicentre study of patients with rDTAA undergoing TEVAR showed acceptable short- but poor long-term survival. Adequate proximal and distal aortic sealing zones are important for technical success. High risk patients and post-operative complications need to be further addressed in an effort to improve outcome. PMID: 30910493 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Minimally invasive procedures such as endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and implantation of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) are gaining ground on traditional surgery.1 –3 These procedures require large-bore access, which is inherently associated with vascular complications and bleeding.

AbstractPurposeTraumatic subclavian vascular injury (TSVI) is rare but often fatal. The precise diagnosis of TSVI remains challenging mainly because of its occult nature, less typical presentations, and being overlooked in the presence of polytrauma. Compared to penetrating injuries, it is even more difficult to identify TSVI in patients who have blunt injuries and no visible bleeding. The risk factors associated with TSVI in patients with thoracic trauma are unclear. The aims of this study were to identify risk factors for TSVI in a cohort of patients with thoracic vascular injuries and to report outcomes after clinical t...

This report aimed to present the long-term follow-up results of the management of superior vena cava (SVC) rupture during balloon angioplasty in an attempt to relieve SVC obstruction as a result of hemodialysis (HD) catheter-related central vein stenosis. Patient concerns: We present a case of a 42-year-old woman with end-stage renal disease on HD for 4 years, initially from an autogenous fistula for 2.5 years and then from a right internal jugular vein (IJV) catheter. She presented with clinical manifestations of SVC obstruction (dilated anterior chest wall and abdominal wall veins and facial swelling), which progresse...
