Reliance on Multiple-Choice Board Examinations Will Have Trade-Offs

With regard to predicting success on the Core Examination [1], it should come as no surprise that good multiple-choice test-takers (ie, those with high scores on the SAT, Medical College Admission Test, and United States Medical Licensing Examination [USMLE]) will perform well on subsequent multiple-choice tests. But translating that test-taking performance to professional work performance is not straightforward. In the field of human resources, review of actual “work samples” are generally deemed to be the most valid metric for evaluating the performance of workplace candidates [2].
