The high potency of PBL relative to CW blue light makes it a suitable antimicrobial for suppressing bacterial growth in biofilms as wel...

This study surveys the clinical relevance of the nasalStaphylococcus aureus colonization status on intensive care unit (ICU) –acquiredS.aureus infections and compares molecular characteristics of isolates from the nose and infectious sites. The 390 patients included comprised 278 non-carriers and 112 carriers. Among the carriers, 56 were decolonized with mupirocin. Decolonization was verified through a second (negative) culture. Spa typing and virulence gene profiling were performed for all isolates. Twenty sixS.aureus infections were detected in the carriage group and 20 in the non-carriage group. Eighteen of these ...

Two new flavones, 8,4 ′-dimethoxy-6-(2-oxopropyl)-flavone (1) and 8,4 ′-dimethoxy-6-(3-hydroxypropyl)- flavone (2), were isolated from the seeds of Arctium lappa. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including extensive 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Compounds1 and2 were evaluated for their anti-methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (anti-MRSA) activity. The results showed that compounds1 and2 exhibited weak active with diameter of inhibition zone (IZD) 10.8 ± 1.0 and 9.3 ± 0.8 mm, respectively. Compounds1 and2 were also tested for antioxidant activity, and they show good an...

ConclusionAccording to this study MDR efflux pumps not only cause high-level resistance but also it considerably associated with over-expression of these genes. Due to the selective pressure on MRSA isolate, the enormous diversity of plasmid-encoded genes had been recorded in different regions, owing to the various numbers and types of isolates in each study or types of disinfectants for general use.

In this study, copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) as well as phosphorus (P) were co-doped into a Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy via micro-arc oxidation (MAO). The entrance mechanisms of Cu and Zn into MAO coatings were investigated by an orthogonal experiment. The results show that Cu and Zn in Cu–Zn–P coatings separately exist mainly in the forms of Cu2O and Zn3(PO4)2. The Cu content in MAO coating increases with increasing EDTA-CuNa2 and KOH concentrations and decreasing phytic acid concentration but is nearly independent of EDTA-ZnNa2 concentration. The Zn content increases with increasing EDTA-ZnNa2 concentrat...

In conclusion, Omad heteroresistance risk should be considered in clinical isolates with MICs ≥ 0.5 mg/L and Omad susceptibility in S. aureus may be affected by efflux pump proteins (i.e., a branched-chain amino acid transport system II carrier protein and an Na/Pi cotransporter family protein), and FnBP.

In recent years, the management of bacterial infections in patients with cirrhosis has become increasingly complicated due to ...

In this study, a green synthesis approach was used to create a composite hydrogel (CoHy) of RSF stabilized with CarboxymethylCellulose-Na (CMC-Na) and loaded with AgNPs. Their swelling ratios were up to 59 g/g when tested in different physiologically relevant fluids. Material characterizations by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of AgNPs on the surface. Antimicrobial properties of the CoHy samples were evaluated using agar diffusion tests. The results showed distinct inhibition zones against major microorganisms found in...
