P1. Abstract Title: Markers of Coagulation as Potential Indicators for the Diagnosis of Sepsis

The emergency department (ED) is an important venue for early diagnosis of sepsis; however, it remains a clinical challenge due to its heterogenous presentation and lack of a definitive biomarker. Neutrophil extracellular trap formation, with the release of cell free DNA (cfDNA) and activation of the coagulation cascade, and inhibition of the anticoagulant Protein C (PC) through extracellular histone, have been shown to be important in sepsis prognosis. It is unknown whether these or other molecules important in the interface between infection and coagulation, might also be diagnostic.
