Potential impact of Helicobacter pylori-related Galectin-3 on chronic kidney, cardiovascular and brain disorders in decompensated cirrhosis

Oikonomou et al. [1] concluded that Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a novel marker of chronic kidney disease with predictive ability in decompensated cirrhosis and an index of disease outcome. Notably, although the relationship between plasma concentrations of Gal-3 and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is well established [2], a similar association in a cohort of patients with liver cirrhosis has not been studied so far.
