AdventHealth opens 1 freestanding ER, nears completion on another

AdventHealth opened one freestanding ER in Oviedo this week and is in the progress of completing another one. The $3.36 billion Altamonte Springs-based health care system opened a 19,000-square foot, 24-bed facility at 8100 Red Bug Lake Road near the Oviedo Mall. The ER includes two kid-friendly patient rooms, imaging technology like X-ray, CT scan and ultrasound equipment, as well as a medical laboratory . “AdventHealth has provided Central Florida residents compassionate, whole-person care for…

There are>1.5 billion people with chronic liver disease worldwide, causing liver diseases to be a significant global health issue. Diffuse parenchymal liver diseases, including hepatic steatosis, fibrosis, metabolic diseases, and hepatitis cause chronic liver injury and may progress to fibrosis and eventually hepatocellular carcinoma. As early diagnosis and treatment of these diseases impact the progression and outcome, the need for assessment of the liver parenchyma has increased. While the current gold standard for evaluation of the hepatic parenchymal tissue, biopsy has disadvantages and limitations. Consequently, no...

ConclusionEarly recognition, appropriate triaging, accurate airway evaluation, and prompt management of such injuries are essential. In this case series, we introduce the potential role of focused airway ultrasound in suspected laryngeal trauma, and the correlation of these exam findings with that of computed tomography (CT) scanning, based on the Schaefer classification of laryngeal injury.

Traumatism of head arteries are rare, but among them the superficial temporal artery is the most exposed and less protected vessel. A pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery may occurs after a blunt head trauma in old patients or during vigorous activity in younger people. Diagnosis should be made primarily upon history and physical examination while duplex ultrasound is appropriate to confirm the diagnosis and CT scan to exclude other possible concomitant pathologies. Direct surgical treatment is the first and main option to solve bleeding and prevent future complications.

CONCLUSION: LPAC syndrome is easy to diagnose and treat; therefore, it should no longer be overlooked. To increase its detection rate, all patients who experience recurrent biliary symptoms following an episode of acute pancreatitis should undergo an ultrasound examination performed by a radiologist with knowledge of the disease. ConclusionIf a  patient presents with epigastric pain and GERD-like symptoms, with no benefit from medical treatment, an esophageal duplication cyst must be a differential diagnosis. This can be confirmed with a CT scan and endoscopic ultrasound, with surgery being the best treatment for this disease

ConclusionIt seems unnecessary to perform chest imaging in children to diagnose COVID-19. Chest radiography can be used in symptomatic children to assess airway infection or pneumonia. CT should be reserved for when there is clinical concern to assess for possible complications, especially in children with coexisting medical conditions.

ConclusionsPoint-of-care ultrasonography was highly sensitive to detect pneumothorax and can be beneficial for the disposition of stable patients and to detect PTX in unstable patients before transferring to the operating room. It is also moderately appropriate for the diagnosis of hemothorax and lung contusion compared to the gold standard, CT scan. It is essential to consider the false-negative and false-positive instances of lung ultrasound in various situations to enhance management and disposition of blunt thoracic injuries.

We report a case of acute urinary retention in an adolescent female secondary to hematocolpos. A 13-year-old female presented to the emergency department with acute urinary retention and suprapubic abdominal pain for 24 hours. She denied menstruation or sexual history. Bedside bladder ultrasound scan revealed 1.2 L of retained urine and a Foley catheter was placed. A formal renal ultrasound detected a debris-filled structure in the abdomino-pelvic cavity. Follow-up computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis revealed an 8.5 cm × 9.3 cm × 12.1 cm mass-like structure...

Rationale: Schwannoma is a tumor of the peripheral nervous system that originated in the Schwann cells of the neural sheath. Esophageal schwannomas are rare esophageal submucosal tumors, comprising approximately 2% of esophageal tumors. Since the symptoms, signs, and images of esophageal schwannoma are not specific, its preoperative diagnosis remains challenging. Patient concerns: A 67-year-old woman visited our department with complaints of gradually developed dysphagia and dyspnea for 4 years. A chest computed tomography scan showed a well-demarcated, enhancing homogeneous tumor measuring 61 × 46 ×...
