Many Ways to Build a Polyp

Publication date: Available online 16 October 2019Source: Trends in GeneticsAuthor(s): Detlev ArendtThe freshwater cnidarian Hydra has been studied for centuries for its unique regenerative capacities. Whole-body single-cell transcriptomics now reveal cellular lineages and gene regulatory networks that build the Hydra polyp. For the first time, transcription factor signatures allow direct comparison of the polyp body plan between Hydra and sea anemone.

ConclusionsAlthough no direct causal relationship could be established between IL22RA1 gene polymorphisms and the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis, genetic variations such as c.113_114insA and c.435A > C may be involved in the susceptibility to or protection against the chronic rhinosinusitis phenotype, respectively. Testing this hypothesis will require studies with larger cohorts.ResumoIntroduçãoA rinossinusite crônica é uma doença multifatorial cuja patogênese, influenciada por fatores genéticos e ambientais, ainda é incerta. Estudos genéticos a...

CONCLUSIONS: Angiomyxoma is a rare, benign and locally aggressive tumor, which can infiltrate locally and present unusually as perineal hernia. Due to its rarity and lack of specific diagnostic requirements, it's difficult to diagnose preoperatively KEY WORDS: Angiomyxoma, Obturator hernia, Pelvic mass. PMID: 31723050 [PubMed - in process]

We present a case of an otherwise healthy 58-year-old woman with multiple nasal polyps who underwent nasal polypectomy. The operation was initially considered successful. However, the patient had never recovered from general anesthesia and was declared deceased 24 hours after the surgery. The autopsy revealed a basilar subarachnoid hemorrhage. The examination of the basilar skull showed a perforation of approximately 15 by 7 mm in the right cribriform plate. Above the bone perforation, there was a disruption of the dura and a 20-mm-long penetrating wound within the right frontal lobe parenchyma of the brain, with associat...

Authors: Villar Lucas C, Hernando Martín M, Álvarez-Cuenllas B Abstract Juvenile polyps are hamartomatous lesions, usually unique, which appear at an early age. They are usually located in the rectosigmoid junction and are not thought to imply a higher risk of colorectal cancer. Here we report a case of signet ring cell (SRC) carcinoma in this type of lesion. PMID: 31718199 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We report here that Chlamydomonas reinhardtii can accumulate manganese (Mn) in proportion to extracellular supply, up to 30-fold greater than its typical quota and with remarkable tolerance. As visualized by X-ray fluorescence microscopy and nanoscale secondary ion MS (nanoSIMS), Mn largely co-localizes with phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca), consistent with the Mn-accumulating site being an acidic vacuole, known as the acidocalcisome. Vacuolar Mn stores are accessible reserves that can be mobilized in Mn-deficient conditions to support algal growth. We noted that Mn accumulation depends on cellular polyphosphate (polyP) con...

Conclusions Gene signatures involved in defective host defences (including cilia dysfunction and immune dysregulation), inflammation and abnormal metabolism of ECM are implicated in CRSwNP. Functional validation of these gene expression patterns will open opportunities for CRSwNP therapeutic interventions such as biologics and immunomodulators.

AbstractIntroductionLinked color imaging (LCI) and blue laser imaging-bright (BLI-b) improve the visibility of gastrointestinal lesions. In this multicenter study, we compared the effects of LCI and BLI-b on the visibility of flat polyps with visibility scores and color difference (CD) values, including fast-withdrawal and large-monitor observation.MethodsWe recorded 120 videos of 40 consecutive flat polyps (2 –20 mm), adenoma, and sessile serrated adenoma and polyp (SSA/P), using white light imaging (WLI), BLI-b, and LCI from July 2017 to December 2017. All videos were evaluated by eight endoscopists according ...
