AbstractKorean-American mental health is poorly understood, and screening for sleep disturbances may be an effective means of identifying at-risk individuals. In partnership with a Korean-American church in Los Angeles, an online survey was administered. The study was conducted at a Korean-American church in Los Angeles, California. The sample consisted of 137 Korean-Americans drawn from the church congregation. Sleep disturbances were measured using a single ordinal variable, and mental health outcomes included nonspecific psychological distress, perceived stress, loneliness, suicidal ideation, hazardous drinking, treatme...

Neuroimaging studies revealed that emotion and cognition dysfunction after sleep deprivation is associated with the disturbance of the salience network. However, the age effect on the functional connectivity changes of the network after sleep deprivation remains unclear. The current study investigated the functional connectivity changes of the right anterior insula after partial sleep deprivation in young and old adults by using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. We found a significant age × deprivation interaction effect on the functional connectivity between the right ventral anterior insula and t...

(Toyohashi University of Technology) Toyohashi University of Technology researchers conducted an experiment on the nature of sleep in an evacuation shelter environment. This experiment was performed by creating a mock shelter in the university's gymnasium with four of the emergency blankets as well as a standard futon set. The results showed that the low temperature (5 ° C) inside the gymnasium affected subjects' sleep and body temperature regulation, reducing sleep efficiency by 10% and increasing fatigue.
(SingHealth) A new study by KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), together with National University of Singapore, has found that first exposure earlier than 18 months of age to screen devices -- such as smartphones, tablets, videogame consoles, television etc -- and the presence of multiple screen devices in the bedroom are associated with elevated sleep disruption and emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) in preschool children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs)
CONCLUSION: Sleep disorders in neurology and psychiatry are a heterogeneous group of disorders with diverse manifestations. Their proper diagnosis and treatment can help prevent secondary diseases and the worsening of concomitant conditions. Care structures for the treatment of sleep disorders should be further developed.
