Authors: Sobrinho G, Ministro A, Silva A, Pedro L Abstract Renal artery aneurysms are rare. They are most commonly degenerative, congenital or due to medial fibroplasia. Proximal aneurysms can be repaired by endovascular and in-situ surgical techniques. However, aneurysms of the distal renal artery and its branches require ex-vivo surgical repair, also known as auto-transplantation: the kidney is removed, dissected and reconstructed in cold ischemia, and put back in place. A 69-year-old woman, with hypertension, presented with bilateral renal artery aneurysms with a diameter of 3.4 cm on the rig...

ConclusionGene expression analysis of sorted cells from both methods showed successful enrichment of SC. Lineage markers such as Map1b, p75-NTR and S100b were enriched in the sorted SC population. SC sorting by eGFP expression showed improved enrichment, particularly of mature myelinating genes, although this could represent sampling of a subset of SC.

Publication date: Available online 19 November 2019Source: Research in MicrobiologyAuthor(s): Hui-zhou Qi, Wu-zhou Wangi, Jun-yan He, Yun Ma, Fang-zhu Xiao, Shu-ya HeAbstractDeinococcus radiodurans is famous for its extreme resistance to various stresses such as ionizing radiation (IR), desiccation and oxidative stress. The underlying mechanism of exceptional resistance of this robust bacterium still remained unclear. However, the antioxidative system of D. radiodurans has been considered to be the determinant factor for its unparalleled resistance and protects the proteome during stress, then the DNA repair system and met...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewPrimarily reported in the overhead throwing athlete, ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries have been extensively studied since Dr. Frank Jobe first described his technique for ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction on professional baseball pitcher Tommy John. While the framework for our understanding of UCL injury was initially established studying the repetitive valgus loading of the throwers ’ elbow, other sport-related activities in non-throwing athletes can impart similar valgus stress on the medial elbow placing the UCL at risk for injury. The purpose of this review is to evaluate t...

We present the management and successful outcome of immediate repair for urethral trauma in a patient with history of congenital anomalies managed with vaginal dilation. Proper exposure is difficult, but urologic repair can be achieved with or without concomitant vaginal repair.

ConclusionsOur results revealed specific details regarding residents’ error management strategies and provides validity evidence for the use of human factors error frameworks in surgical performance assessments. Practice in simulation-based learning environments may improve resident decision-making and error management opportunities by providing a structured experience where errors are explicitly characterized and used for training and feedback. Error management training may play a major role in equipping residents and junior faculty with the skills required for independent, high-quality operative performance.

Conclusions: Our findings suggest that some subsets of XPD patients may be at risk of radiosensitivity reactions and treatment with statins and bisphosphonates may be an interesting approach of radioprotection countermeasure. Different mechanistic models were discussed to better understand the potential specificity of the p.[Arg683Trp];[Arg616Pro] XPD mutations . PMID: 31738647 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionAortic dissection in pregnancy is relatively rare, but physicians should be on high alert for the condition when a pregnant woman has chest pain. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment in addition to regular multidisciplinary care are crucial to achieve favourable results.

We live in a complex, fast-paced, and ever-changing time, and one aspect of daily life that seems elusive is a sense of balance. Often when people talk of happiness, they are really speaking of the by-product of living in a balanced and meaningful way. Yet many forces, some internal and others external, push and pull in the moment or over the course of the day or week, enough so that we find ourselves off center. Too much time spent in this mode wears us out and invites a feeling of being out of synch and trying to catch up or catch our breath. Complexity challenges us to change for an important reason: simplicity. The pro...
