Commentary: Difficulty weaning from bypass following a Norwood procedure: Revise or Support?

While results following Norwood palliation have improved over time, a large proportion continues to have difficulty weaning from CPB.1 The surgeon is then faced with a significant time-sensitive dilemma analogous to what Odysseus encountered when he was caught between Scylla and Charybdis.2 This situation demands a rapid, thorough and step-wise elimination of potential causes, technical / anatomical, physiologic or both.
