Conclusions: An imbalance in oxidation-reduction processes accompanies obesity. Moreover, inflammatory cytokines and atherosclerotic complications are involved in the obesity process. The obtained results suggest that the studied parameters may be independent prognostic markers preceding the development of cardiovascular and metabolic complications in people afflicted with type II obesity. Authors: Nikolajczyk BS, Dawson DR Abstract New strategies are critically needed to counter uncontrolled periodontal infection and inflammation in obesity-associated type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, mechanisms that explain the relationship between periodontitis (PD) and T2D remain poorly understood. Several lines of evidence indicate that destructive immune responses potentiate periodontitis (PD) in T2D. B cells are abundant in periodontal lesions, and our data show that B cells are required for PD in obese/insulin resistant but not lean/normoglycemic mice. In mice and in people, T2D-primed B cells supported Th17 cy...

Background: Resistin, a cysteine-rich polypeptide encoded by the RETN gene, which plays an important role in many mechanisms in rodent studies, including lipid metabolism, inflammation and insulin resistance. Nevertheless, the relationship between resistin and insulin resistance in humans is under debate. The present study was designed to clarify the correlation between resistin and insulin resistance. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library until March 3, 2019 with the keywords “resistin” and “insulin resistance.” Funnel plots and Egger's test ...

Conclusion: The epidemiological issues of MetS in Beijing adolescents should be known across socioeconomic classes. Early intervention strategies, such as dietary pattern interventions and physical excise, should be designed for that population to reduce the disease burdens of cardiovascular disease (CVD), Type 2 diabetes (T2D), and steatohepatitis in adulthood.

AbstractBackgroundSingle anastomosis sleeve ileal (SASI) bypass is a newly introduced bariatric and metabolic procedure. The present multicenter study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the SASI bypass in the treatment of patients with morbid obesity and the metabolic syndrome.MethodsThis is a retrospective, seven-country, multicenter study on patients with morbid obesity who underwent the SASI bypass. Data regarding patients ’ demographics, body mass index (BMI), percentage of total weight loss (%TWL), percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL), and improvement in comorbidities at 12 months postoperatively and postopera...

The objective of this study was 1) to assess the relationship between diagnosed DLP and cardiovascular disease in COPD patients and compare it with other known cardiovascular risk factors and 2) to determine the relationship between the different cardiovascular comorbidities and the severity groups according to the GOLD 2017 classification.MethodsA cross-sectional, observational study was performed in 454 outpatients with COPD during their follow up. We calculated the prevalence of each of the cardiovascular comorbidities and the probability of each of the cardiovascular risk factors to occur jointly with a vascular diseas...

CONCLUSION: Our results indicated a significant increase in expression levels of miR-146, NF-κB and inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β) while a significant decrease in pancreatic expression levels of TRAF6 and IRAK1 in diabetic group as compared to the control group. In contrast, swimming exercise resulted in a significant decrease in expression levels of miR-146a, NF-кB and inflammatory cytokines and a significant increase in expression levels of TRAF6 and IRAK1 in the exercise-diabetic group compared to the diabetic group.
