Authors: Sun L, Yin H, Liu M, Xu G, Zhou X, Ge P, Yang H, Mao Y Abstract Albumin is the most abundant plasma protein and albumin infusion is commonly used. Conventionally, the biologic and therapeutic effects of albumin have been thought to be due to its oncotic properties. However, albumin has a variety of biologic functions, including molecular transport, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, endothelial stabilization, anti-thrombotic effects, and the adjustment of capillary permeability. Despite this, the functions of albumin have not been thoroughly investigated. Recent studies have shown non-alcoholic fatty liver...

The effects of adding L-phenylalanine (Phe) during 2-PEA production were investigated in the co-fermentation of Hanseniaspora vineae (HV6) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae BDX. BDX and HV6 strains overproduced 2-phenylethyl alcohol (2-PE) and 2-PEA, respectively. The co-fermentation of BDX and HV6 achieved a 14.9 fold increase in 2-PEA odour activity value (OAV) b...

The chemical structures of the compounds were determined by using spectroscopic methods and further supported by comparison with previously literature values. Among them, flavonoids 4, 6 and 9 were isolated for the first time from the family Ulmaceae. Furthermore, the ch...

This study examined the joint associations of PA and alcohol on all-cause, CVD and cancer mortality. Participants were recruited between 2006 and 2010 in the United Kingdom. Alcohol consumption was categorised based on current UK guidelines (14 units/week). PA was categorised based on the Metabolic Task Equivalent of PA as low, moderate and high. Data were analysed using Cox proportional-hazard models. The final analysis, conducted in 2019, included 297,988 adults aged ≥40. Over an average follow-up of 6.9 years, 6079 deaths were recorded, including 1219 CVD deaths and 3112 cancer deaths. We observed greater point e...

In order to inform prevention efforts, the present study examined the role of susceptibility measures as well as psychosocial, behavioral, and environmental factors in prospectively predicting ever use of electronic cigarettes among adolescents. We analyzed Wave 1 and Wave 2 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH), nationally rep...

Authors: Takahashi T, Matsuura C, Toyoda K, Suzuki Y, Yamada N, Kobayashi A, Sugai S, Shimoi K Abstract In order to estimate the potential risk of chemicals including drug in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), we investigated allyl alcohol induced liver injury using SD rats and Spontaneously Diabetic Torii-Leprfa (SDT fatty) rats as a model for human T2DM. The diabetic state is one of the risk factors for chemically induced liver injury because of lower levels of glutathione for detoxification by conjugation with chemicals and environmental pollutants and their reactive metabolites. Allyl alcohol is met...
