Resveratrol ameliorates brain injury via the TGF- β-mediated ERK signaling pathway in a rat model of cerebral hemorrhage.

In conclusion, these results indicate that resveratrol decreases ischemia/reperfusion-induced neuronal apoptosis by downregulating the TGF-β-mediated ERK pathway in a rat model of cerebral hemorrhage and may serve as a potential agent for the treatment of cerebral hemorrhage. Authors: Yoshida K, Miyamoto S, SMART-K Study Group Abstract With recent advances in medical treatments for carotid artery stenosis (CS), indications for carotid surgery should be more carefully considered for asymptomatic CS (ACS). Accurate stratification of ACS should be based on the risk of cerebral infarction, and subgroups of patients more likely to benefit from surgical treatment should be differentiated. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a non-invasive, accurate modality for characterizing carotid plaque. Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) seems the most promising feature of vulnerable plaque detectable by M...

AbstractBackgroundThe influences of genetic variants on functional clinical outcomes following stroke are unclear. In order to reliably quantify these influences, we undertook a comprehensive meta-analysis of outcomes after acute intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) or ischaemic stroke (AIS) in relation to different genetic variants.MethodsPubMed, PsycInfo, Embase and Medline electronic databases were searched up to January 2019. Outcomes, defined as favourable or poor, were assessed by validated scales (Barthel index, modified Rankin scale, Glasgow outcome scale and National Institutes of Health stroke scale).ResultsNinety-two...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Many cohort studies have explored the relation between tea consumption and stroke risk; however, the conclusions have been inconsistent. In addition, evidence is lacking in China, where the patterns of tea consumption and main types of tea consumed differ substantially from those in high-income countries. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to systematically assess the association of tea consumption with the risk of stroke based on a Chinese large-scale cohort study. METHODS: A total of 487,377 participants from the China Kadoorie Biobank were included in the present study. Detailed information abou...

Conclusion: Our meta-analysis suggests that GFAP has a promising diagnostic accuracy for the differentiation of ICH from IS and mimics. Further, phase II and phase III diagnostic test studies are required to validate the findings before using GFAP as a blood based biomarker for clinical use.Trial Registration: This study was registered in OSF registries 10.17605/OSF.IO/B9JP4.
