Trends in Imaging Workup of the Male Breast: Experience from a Single Center.

CONCLUSIONS: Mammography and ultrasound remain the leading modalities in breast imaging among males for diagnostic workup of palpable mass, with gynecomastia being the predominant diagnosis. However, presentation with palpable mass was also associated with malignancy. Despite a notable MBC rate in our cohort, the likelihood of cancer is low in young patients and in cases of gynecomastia. Authors: Pennisi PA, Fernández MC, Martin A Abstract Pheochromocytomas/paragangliomas (PCCs/PGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors, developed from chromaffin cells derived from the neural crest. From a genetic point of view PCCs/PGLs are divided as sporadic cases, and inherited cases as part of hereditary (familial) syndromes. While the majority is benign, up to 26% of PCCs/PGLs will undergo malignant transformation. Validated prognostic pathological parameters for malignant PCCs/PGLs are still lacking. Signaling that follows the interactions between IGFs and their receptor/s in tumor cells received extensive ...

We report a unique case of FS presenting initially with primary amenorrhea at 16 years, without previous or concomitant renal damage. Only subsequently she developed an extremely late-onset nephropathy. Genetic analysis revealed the IVS9 + 5 G>A mutation in intron 9 of the WT1 gene. This clinical presentation and review of WT1 literature highlights the importance of considering FS in the differential diagnosis of patients with 46,XY disorders of Sexual development, even without nephropathy. Furthermore, the identification WT1 gene mutation prior to evident renal dysfunction indicates an immediate and close surveillance ...

Authors: Blumenfeld O, Hampe CS, Shulman L, Chen R, Laron Z Abstract Recent epidemiological surveys performed in Australia, USA and Israel demonstrate that Rotavirus vaccination correlates with an attenuated prevalence and/or incidence of early childhood diabetes (T1D). Other studies failed to confirm the above. PMID: 32780950 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate a correlation between the required dose of metformin, BMI and hyperandrogenism. The dose of metformin should be adjusted to patients' BMI in order to obtain significant results in terms of clinical, metabolic and hormonal responses. PMID: 32767342 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: de Sire A, Losco L, Cisari C, Gennari A, Boldorini R, Fusco N, Cigna E, Invernizzi M Abstract OBJECTIVE: Axillary web syndrome (AWS) is a complication of surgical procedures in breast cancer (BC) patients. This condition with poorly understood incidence and etiology is characterized by the locoregional development of scar tissue, leading to subcutaneous cording, motion impairment and pain. The early identification of patients at risk for AWS would improve their clinical management. Here, we sought to characterize the prevalence of and the risk factors associated with AWS in BC women after surgery. PATI...

Authors: Gallegos-Arreola MP, Ramírez-Hernández MA, Figuera LE, Zúñiga-González GM, Puebla-Pérez AM Abstract OBJECTIVE: The rs2234694 and 50 bp insertion/deletion (Ins/Del) polymorphisms of the SOD1 gene have been shown to be associated with many diseases, but in breast cancer (BC) their association has not been detected. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency and association of SOD1 gene polymorphisms (rs2234694 and 50 bp Ins/Del) in BC patients in the Mexican population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The SOD1 polymorphisms were determined by Polymerase Chai...

CONCLUSIONS: Our present study demonstrated that high expression of FOXP4-AS1 in NPC portended poor outcomes. FOXP4-AS1upregulated STMN1 by interacting with miR-423-5p as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to promote NPC progression. PMID: 32767327 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we found that lncRNA-PGM5-AS1 was low expressed in human colorectal cancer cells, which could promote tumor proliferation, migration and invasion by serving as a molecular sponge and by modulating the inhibitory effect of miR-100-5p on tumor suppressor gene SMAD4.
