Relation of Subclinical Hypothyroidism to Acute Kidney Injury Among ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

CONCLUSIONS: Among STEMI patients treated with PCI, the presence of SCH is common and may serve as a significant marker for AKI. PMID: 31599513 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusion: On-going and incident L-T4 treatment in patients with HF was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular death, and MACE. Increased risk of MI was observed for on-going treatment, reduced risk was observed for incident treatment. PMID: 30517746 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Introduction: Approximately 77% of younger pts and 49% of older pts with newly diagnosed AML achieve CR after induction chemotherapy (chemo). The majority of pts who achieve CR eventually relapse, with only approximately 30% of pts maintaining CR for 3 yrs or longer. Long-term outcomes in pts maintaining 1st CR for at least 3 yrs (AML survivors) remain largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate long-term outcomes in this subset of pts. Methods: We performed a chart review of pts with AML treated at our institution from 2000-2015 who achieved CR for at least 3 yrs after their initial chemo ± allogen...

Conclusion. AYAs with AL who are disease-free survivors at one-year have favorable long-term HCT outcomes. Long-term survival in this population appears unrelated to a TBI vs. CT-based MAC regimen. Development of cataracts is increased in long-term AYA AML HCT survivors receiving TBI-based MAC. Screening for LEs is important in survivors of AYA HCT for AL, regardless of the use of TBI or CT- based MAC regimens.DisclosuresMuffly: Shire Pharmaceuticals: Research Funding; Adaptive Biotechnologies: Research Funding.

AbstractPurposeTo determine whether hypothyroidism is associated with cardiovascular complications and surgical wound infections after cardiac surgery.MethodsPatients were categorized as: (1) hypothyroid [patients with increased TSH concentrations ( ≧ 5.5 mIU/L) within 6 months prior to surgery]; (2) corrected hypothyroid [diagnosis of hypothyroidism any time before surgery or on preoperative thyroid supplementation and normal TSH concentration (0.4 \(\le\) TSH\(\le\) 5.5 mIU/L]; and (3) euthyroid [no hypothyroid diagnosis and not on preoperative thyroid supplementation and normal TS...

Conclusions: Subclinical thyroid dysfunction is quite prevalent in ACS patients. There are no significant associations between STEMI, Unstable Angina, or NSTEMI patients in terms of thyroid dysfunction neither in single vessel versus multivessel disease involvement. The causative role and outcomes of treatment are still uncertain and need further follow-up. PMID: 30254730 [PubMed]

Conclusion Acute delirium is commonly underdiagnosed, and can be masked by chronic alterations in cognition and mentation. Delirium has many causes, and can be assessed using the acronym DELIRIUM. The most common presentations suggesting delirium over dementia are short-term memory loss, rapid fluctuation in condition, acute alteration, and a condition present that may be responsible for delirium. Management includes searching for causes of acute alteration in mental status, negating environmental factors of delirium, and—only when necessary—reducing the patient’s threat to themselves or providers by usin...

Publication date: August 2018Source: Journal of Psychiatric Research, Volume 103Author(s): Mashhood Ahmed SheikhAbstractObjectiveMany researchers view retrospective reports with skepticism. Indeed, the observed association between retrospectively-reported childhood disadvantage (CD) and morbidity in adulthood has been criticized as an artefactual correlation driven by the psychological state of the respondent at the time of reporting (current psychological state). The aim of this study was to assess the role of current psychological state in the association between childhood disadvantage and morbidity in adulthood.MethodsT...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), also called transient left ventricular (LV) ballooning syndrome, satirizes myocardial infarction and is characterized by LV dysfunction in the absence of coronary artery disease. Hypothesis described for TC has been an intense social stressor, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis among others. We performed this study to analyze the association of hypothyroidism with TC. METHODS: We queried the Nationwide Inpatient Sample which represents 20% of all the United States hospital data for our study. We identified TC and hypothyroidism through their respective ICD9. C...
