The Deadly Trio: Heroin, FentaNYL, and Carfentanil

Opioid dependence is a public health epidemic; the United States is experiencing an unprecedented number of opioid-related deaths.1 Opioids are the primary drugs associated with deaths from overdose and include prescription pain relievers, such as oxyCODONE (OxyCONTIN), HYDROcodone (Vicodin), and methadone.2 The availability and use of prescription pain relievers has increased over the last several decades in the US. In 2017, there were 11.4 million persons aged 12 years or older in the previous year who used opioids in the US, most of whom used prescription pain relievers.
