This study sought to evaluate the effectiveness of PAP therapy for SDB on AF recurrence. Methods:This was a single-center, retrospective study conducted at a tertiary referral center. All adult patients who had SDB on polysomnography and underwent AF intervention (ablation or cardioversion) following polysomnography from January 1992-December 2014 were analyzed. Primary outcome was time to first-documented recurrence of AF after AF intervention by Kaplan–Meier estimates. Results:Among 30,188 patients with obstructive and central SDB, 429 had this diagnosis before AF intervention; 269 were“PAP-adherent users,&rdqu...

Conclusions:Gut dysbiosis seems to be an important factor in the pathophysiology of OSA-induced hypertension. Reversing gut dysbiosis at an early stage through prebiotics and probiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation combined with positive airway pressure therapy may open new horizons of treatment to prevent SH. More studies are needed in humans to elicit the effect of positive airway pressure therapy on gut dysbiosis.Citation:Mashaqi S, Gozal D. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the circadian profile of the vasorelaxing substances calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) and the vasconstrictive agent endothelin-1 (ET1) and the daily rhythms of cardiac hemodynamic indices (CHI) and baroreflex (BRS) in Wistar rats with 1 kidney-1 clip model of arterial hypertension (1K-1C AH). The animals were divided into 3 groups: I- sham-operated (SO), II- 4-week and III- 8-week 1K-1C AH rats. Plasma concentration of ET1, CGRP and EET ’s were investigated every 4 h. In conscious freely moving 1K-1C AH rats ...

This study included SSc patients who underwent right heart catheterization (RHC) in our hospital during 2010–2018. Following variables were assessed for performance to predict mPAP ≥ 25 mmHg or >  20 mmHg; anti-centromere or U1-RNP antibody, plasma BNP level, serum urate level, right axis deviation, forced vital capacity (FVC)/diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) ratio, and tricuspid regurgitation velocity. Of 58 patients enrolled in this study, 24 had mPAP of ≥ 25 mmHg an d 9 had mPAP of 21–24 mmHg. Among variables tested, only FVC...

AbstractIntroductionEarly alterations in the cardiovascular system have been described in offspring of hypertensive parents, but with conflicting results.AimTo evaluate the influence of genetic predisposition to hypertension on left ventricular (LV) geometry and function, 30 normotensive male offspring of hypertensive parents (EH+) and 30 matched offspring of normotensive families (EH −), were studied.MethodsAll subjects underwent office and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), conventional and Tissue Doppler Echocardiography (TDE), including assessment of myocardial performance index (MPI).ResultsEH+ sh...
