Uzêda, Luís F.P. GondimAbstractSarcocystis neurona is the major cause of the equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) in the Americas and has opossums of the genus Didelphis as definitive hosts. Most isolates of Sarcocystis sp. shed by opossums in Brazil differ genetically from the known species of Sarcocystis. These Brazilian isolates behave similarly as Sarcocystis falcatula, which causes sarcocystosis in bi...

The objective of this study was to evaluate post-vaccine antibody titers and circulating cellular memory development in heifers fed OG and administered a commercially available modified-live bovine respiratory disease (BRD) vaccine. Twenty-four Holstein heifers were assigned to one of two diets for 170 days: Control TMR (CON; n = 11), or TMR plus OG (TRT; 9 g/100 kg BW/day; n = 13). Samples for hematology, serology, and cellular assays were collected on D-110, 0, 21, 42, and 60 of the trial. Heifers were administered two priming doses of a modified-live BRD vaccine, with a third dose given on D0. There were n...

Publication date: Available online 19 October 2019Source: Preventive Veterinary MedicineAuthor(s): Cara S. Wilson, David J. Jenkins, Victoria J. Brookes, Tamsin S. BarnesAbstractA retrospective study was conducted on 1,178,329 cattle slaughtered at an eastern Australian abattoir between 2010 and 2018. The data were searched for records in which a diagnosis of hydatid disease was made by routine meat inspection and apparent prevalence was calculated. True prevalence of hydatid disease in any organ was then estimated using previously reported sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of hepatic hydatid disease by routine mea...

This study describes antimicrobial use on Japanese pig farms in 2015, 2016 and 2017 in terms of mg of active ingredient per kg of PCU (population correction unit). Data on antimicrobial use from a total of 72 farrow-to finish farms over these three years were used in the study. The results revealed that the average use of antimicrobials in 2015, 2016 and 2017 was 304.8 (SD = 226.3), 311.2 (SD = 241.0) and 342.9 (SD = 291.3) mg/kg PCU, respectively. Most (97%) of the antimicrobials were administered orally. The most commonly used antimicrobials were tetracyclines, followed by macrol...

Publication date: Available online 19 October 2019Source: Statistics &Probability LettersAuthor(s): Étienne Begin, Pierre Dutilleul, Carole Beaulieu, Taoufik BouezmarniAbstractThe M-Vine decomposition of high-dimensional first-order Vector AutoRegressive [VAR(1)] models is detailed by representing a VAR(1) with a Multivariate Gaussian Copula (MGC), building VAR(1) models with MGCs, decomposing MGCs following M-Vine structures, and reconstructing an MGC from an M-Vine structure.

This study attempts to fill this knowledge gap in the mechanics of bonded structures. Herein, we propose a model that allows the calculation of the splitting forces in the basic part of the bonded bilayer where the internal stresses along interface are uniformly distributed. The calculations reveal three possible distributions of the splitting forces in the bonded structure, i.e., the splitting forces could be either located at the center or the periphery—which also includes the edges of the structure, or could be completely absent regardless of the total magnitude of the residual stresses. The results obtained could...

The near-field plasmon interactions in individual silver nanowire pairs induce MPPs. The 1D PC consisting of dielectric multilayer stacks with alternating refractive indices forms a PBG in the reflection spectrum. When the position o...

Publication date: Available online 19 October 2019Source: Physics of the Earth and Planetary InteriorsAuthor(s): Ahmed Nasser Mahgoub, Erick Juárez-Arriaga, Harald Böhnel, Linda R. Manzanilla, Ann CyphersAbstractOur knowledge of the Earth's magnetic field intensity changes over the past few thousand years is still limited because of the uneven spatial and temporal distribution of data, which also includes the Americas. The present study reports 41 new palaeointensity data covering the past 3600 years which, together with 38 previously published data of similar quality, are used to construct a palaeointensity ...

The fabrication of single phase monoclinic CuO was confirmed by XRD. SEM images showed the leaf like morphology for CuO which appeared rough and densely packed in CuO/NCQDs composites. TEM images of CuO/NCQDs shows slightly distorted nano-leaves with NCQ...
