The combination of chemotherapy and other therapies would be a promising therapy strategy. Photothermal therapy (PTT) does not cause serious side effects and has dual control of time and space, which was considered to be a good method for combination with chemotherapy. Here, we modified multifunctional nanosheets based on in-situ gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) grown molybdenum disulfide...

Authors: Xu W, Lou Y, Chen W, Kang Y Abstract Effective cancer therapy usually requires the assistance of well-designed drug carriers. In order to increase the drug accumulation to tumor tissue as well as to reduce the side effects of drug carriers, the hybrid drug delivery system (DDS) was developed by integrating folic acid (FA) and a metal-organic framework (MOF). The anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) was preloaded into the MOF nanoparticles during the synthesis process of the MOF nanoparticles. After surface modification with FA, the resulting FA/MOF/DOX nanoparticles were capable of serving as a biocompatible ...

We report an unprecedented case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in the floor of mouth of a 23-year-old woman with XP. The patient was referred to the oncologist and, two months after surgical resection, underwent a single chemotherapy and radiotherapy session. However, she died 73 hours after undergoing her first chemotherapy session. Considering the unexpected outcome of this case, we also investigated possible exacerbated adverse effects of antineoplastic treatments (especially cisplatin-based chemotherapy) in XP patients, and discussed the main characteristics of the disease, especially cases with oral manifestations d...

AbstractThe standard treatment for locally advanced gastric cancer differs across the world. In western countries, perioperative chemotherapy or postoperative adjuvant chemoradiotherapy are the preferred treatment options, whereas in Asia, D2 gastrectomy followed by postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy is standard. In Japan, adjuvant chemotherapy with S-1 is the standard treatment for pStage II gastric cancer, whereas adjuvant chemotherapy with a doublet regimen is preferred for pStage III gastric cancer. The efficacy of preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy using S-1 plus cisplatin, has been investigated in selected patien...

AbstractBackgroundOur aim was to identify the independent prognostic factors in patients with primary urethral carcinoma (PUC) and to predict their overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) at 3, 5, and 8  years.MethodsPatients with PUC identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were divided into training and validation cohorts. Nomograms were constructed based on the results of Cox regression analysis. The predictive performance of each nomogram was evaluated using the consistency index (C-index), the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC), and ...

This study investigated PA levels during and between chemotherapy cycles.MethodsWe objectively measured PA levels for 2  weeks during the 2nd and 11th chemotherapy cycles. In addition, self-reported PA levels were assessed before chemotherapy initiation, during 2nd, 6th, and 12th chemotherapy cycles. This study included 22 men and 33 women with stage II–III colon cancer patients (57 ± 9 years).ResultsBefore the initiation of chemotherapy, most cancer patients were minimally active. Compared with the 1st week of chemotherapy, moderate- and light-intensity PA levels significantly increase...

In conclusion, a polypharmacology approach of combining established, prolongevity drug inhibitors of specific nodes may be the most effective way to target the nutrient-sensing network to improve late-life health. Deletion of p38α in Neurons Slows Neural Stem Cell Decline and Loss of Cognitive Function in Mice https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2019/10/deletion-of-p38%ce%b1-in-neurons-slows-neural-stem-cell-decline-and-loss-of-cognitive-function-in-mice/ Researchers here provide evidence for p38α to be involved in the regulation of diminished neural stem cell activity with age. It is thought...

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) and small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) are aggressive neuroendocrine tumors with poor survival rates [1 –3]. For stage IV SCLC, treatment has not advanced significantly over the last decades and consists of palliative chemotherapy. The same applies to stage IV LCNEC, were no standard treatment exists and palliative chemotherapy with SCLC and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) regimens are both deeme d appropriate [4]. Recently, targeted therapy focusing on delta like protein 3 (DLL3) has received attention to improve outcomes for SCLC and LCNEC [5].
