It is a leading cause of lower-limb amputation and disabling neuropathic pain. Amputations in patients with diabetes have a devastating effect on quality of life and are associated with an alarmingly low life expectancy (on average only 2 years from the amputation). AbstractPancreas transplantation is considered the curative treatment for severe type 1 diabetes mellitus in selected cases. Since the first procedure in 1966, surgical techniques have been improved. The current trend among most medical centers, as well as at our Institution, is enteric drainage and systemic venous or portal anastomosis. The aim of this pictorial essay is to describe the main imaging features of pancreatic transplantation with duodenoduodenostomy drainage.

ConclusionNeedle flexor tenotomies are a relatively safe and effective treatment compared to tenotomies done by scalpel, both as treatment for ulcers and to prevent formation of new ulcers associated with hammer, mallet and claw toe deformities. As a side note, transfer complications are avoidable if all toes on one or both feet are tenotomized in one procedure.

ConclusionOur study showed a significant association between alterations in intestinal microbial composition and T1D; however, in some articles, it is not clear which one happens first. Investigation of altered gut microbiota can help in the early detection of T1D before seropositivity. Targeted microbiome modulation can be a novel potential therapeutic strategy.

Conclusions/interpretationOur study identifies a proinsulin-derived peptide region that is highly diabetogenic on the HLA-DR3-DQ2 background using an in vivo model. This approach and the peptide region identified may have wider implications for future studies of human type 1 diabetes.

Authors: Manoylov IK, Boneva GV, Doytchinova IA, Mihaylova NM, Tchorbanov AI Abstract Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune syndrome defined by the presence of autoreactive T and B cells, which results in destruction of insulin-producing beta cells. Autoantibodies against GAD65 (glutamic acid decarboxylase 65)-a membrane-bound enzyme on pancreatic beta cells, contribute to beta cells' destruction and the loss of pancreatic functions. Mouse FcγRIIb on B lymphocytes possesses an inhibitory effect on the activity of these cells. We hypothesized that it may be possible to suppress GAD65-specific B cells in mi...
