Authors: Guedes T, Coelho G, Guimarães J, Costa H Abstract Hypertrophic and keloid scars represent hyperproliferative disorders that can have a significant impact on patients' lives. The authors present the case of a 53 years-old male with a sternal keloid after excision of a sebaceous cyst and multiple sessions of steroid infiltration, with worsening of the lesion. The patient underwent complete excision of the scar and reconstruction with an anterolateral thigh flap - ALT. The postoperative period was uneventful, with no signs of relapse. Recent researches have indicated that S100A4 participates in tissue fibrosis, whereas calcimycin inhibits this process as a novel S100A4 transcription inhibitor. However, the relationship and mechanisms between calcimycin and S100A4 in keloid fibroblasts (KFs) remain unknown. The present research was aimed to evaluate the effect of calcimycin on S100A4 expression and pathogenesis in KFs. Keloid fibroblasts were cultured and exposed to different concentrations of calcimycin in the absence or presence of transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1). The results showed that the expression of S100A4 was significantly incre...

Efficacy of lentivirus‑mediated Drosophila melanogaster deoxyribonucleoside kinase combined with (E)‑5‑(2‑bromovinyl)‑2'‑deoxyuridine or 1‑β‑D‑arabinofuranosylthymine therapy in human keloid fibroblasts. Mol Med Rep. 2018 May 30;: Authors: Sun Y, Jiang H, Gu M, Zheng X Abstract Keloid scarring is a type of fibroproliferative disease with a high recurrence rate. However, no effective treatment is currently available. Combined therapy with recombinant lentivirus‑mediated Drosophila melanogaster deoxyribonucleoside kinase (Dm‑dNK) and prodrug has been widely studied an...
