In conclusion, blockade of VGSCs in the mononuclear phagocyte system reduced atherosclerotic lesions, which may occur through altering monocyte/macrophage subsets and suppressing macrophage proliferation in atherosclerotic plaques. Blockage of VGSCs may play an important role in cardiovascular protection.
