Omental flap for bronchopleural fistula post pneumonectomy and aorta replacement.

We report the case of a 56-year-old man treated with omental flap for BPF after pneumonectomy along with descending aorta replacement. He underwent left pneumonectomy with combined resection of the descending aorta, followed by replacement with prosthetic graft after the diagnosis of lung cancer, cT4N1M0 Stage IIIA. He had BPF postoperatively and underwent an omental flap plombage following unsuccessful repair using the latissimus dorsi muscle. He did not have BPF recurrence or aortic graft infection. An omental flap is a useful option for treating BPF with intrathoracic prosthetic graft. PMID: 31586619 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractAnti ‐programmed cell death 1 (PD‐1) and its ligand (PD‐L1) has emerged as a novel immunotherapy for non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the proportion of patients who may benefit from immunotherapy is limited and the factors sensitive or resistant to immunotherapy are not completely cle ar. Therefore, to identify reliable biomarkers as predictors of clinical response and resistance to anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 therapies have become increasingly important. Here, we report a case of a patient with bone metastatic NSCLC, who achieved a pathologic complete response after preoperative pembr olizumab treatm...

ATM inhibitors may therefore sensitize cancer cells to these agents. Some cancers may also have underlying genetic defects predisposing them to an ATM inhibitor monotherapy response. We have conducted a genome-w...

In conclusion, this tumor suppressing MF could determine cell fate through ROS-induced DNA damage, inducing oxidative stress and activation of the DNA damage repair pathways, eventually lead to apoptosis and ferroptosis, as well as inhibition of tumor growth. ConclusionsHigh TMB was associated with a better outcome in advanced NSCLC patients who received PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in China. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings.

In conclusion, the concept of an epigenetic clock is compelling, but caution should be taken in interpreting associations with age acceleration. Association tests of age acceleration should include age as a covariate. Abstract Lung cancer in women is a modern epidemic and a major health crisis. Cigarette smoking remains the most important risk factor for lung cancer, and unfortunately smoking rates are either stabilized or continue to increase among women. Women may not be more susceptible to the carcinogenic effects of tobacco, but the biology of lung cancer differs between the sexes. This paper summarizes the biological sex differences in lung cancer, including molecular abnormalities, growth factor receptors, hormonal influences, DNA repair capacity, as well as differences in the histology and treatment outcomes of lung canc...

CONCLUSION: Upper GI surgeons need to have an index of suspicion for PEDH. They must investigate and operate these patients if this complication develops, since an immediate surgery has a high mortality and poor outcome. PMID: 31983091 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract Endobronchial stenting is a well-established palliative approach in lung cancer patients with airway obstruction secondary to tumor burden. However, endobronchial stenting can be complicated by stent erosion into adjacent vessels. While most cases of endobronchial stent related hemoptysis can be treated by stent revision and/or surgical resection, here, we present a case managed by endovascular pulmonary arterial stent placement as a last resort option in the management of an iatrogenic bronchovascular fistula in a non-surgical candidate. It is interesting, but not compelling if its role...
