20.1 the family acceptance project's model for lgbtq youth

Historically, families were not included in interventions to decrease risk for LGBTQ youth. The Family Acceptance Project (FAP) was founded to study LGBTQ youth and families and to develop an evidence-grounded family support model to decrease family-rejecting behaviors and increase family-supportive and -accepting behaviors to reduce behavioral health disparities and increase connectedness. Family rejection is traumatic and must be addressed directly to reduce risk.
