49.3 evaluation and treatment of parasomnias and restless legs syndrome in children and adolescents

Parasomnias encompass a wide range of sleep-related abnormal movements, behaviors, experiences, and perceptions. They range from common minor events to clinical disorders that are disruptive, potentially injurious, and associated with psychosocial stress to the child or family. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sensorimotor disorder characterized by a nearly irresistible urge to move the limbs with sleep-onset and sleep-maintenance complaints and significant impact on the quality of sleep and life.
