The clairvoyant clinician: can we really predict poor outcomes in youth?

The objectives of this presentation are to: 1) review childhood and adolescent risk factors and prognostic indicators associated with the development of future severe mental illness; 2) address prediction of youth violence and implementation of violence risk assessment; 3) discuss predicting suicidality, the use of a risk assessment approach, and social media ’s role in youth suicidality and the associated ethical considerations; and 4) facilitate a discussion with panelists who have expertise in child forensic psychiatry and treatment of high-risk youth.
