67.2 exposure treatment for eating disorders: current status and horizons

Eating disorders comprise a group of disorders associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Anxiety has been postulated as the core underlying pathology in the various forms of eating disorders. The central role of anxiety is associated with reduced response to hedonically positive stimuli and overvaluation of stimuli perceived as negative, which points to the relatively understudied but important area of exposure and response prevention as the treatment modality for eating disorders. Our presentation will focus on the current practices and future directions regarding exposure therapy in the management of eating disorders.
