74.2 acute inpatient psychiatric care of patients with eating disorders

Despite the lack of empirical support, youth with severe eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa sometimes require acute inpatient mental health hospitalization because of the severity of their illness, complexity, or severity of mental health or medical comorbidity, lack of access to intensive outpatient treatment, or other clinical features. This discussion will examine challenges that arise in the inpatient mental health setting and will present possible solutions.
