Measurement-based care in child and adolescent psychiatry

Measurement-based care (MBC) represents the use of standardized, objective measures of pathology to establish a baseline and track treatment progress in chronic medical conditions. There is a clear body of literature demonstrating the value of MBC to supplement clinical assessment in psychiatry, and the transition to value-based care demands that child and adolescent psychiatrists adopt more objective standards of treatment progress. Specific barriers to the use of MBC (knowledge, infrastructure, and clinical acceptance) have been identified in the literature and in surveys of the community of child and adolescent psychiatrists.
