83.2 raising our voices to echo the pleas of families separated at the border: children and adolescent psychiatrists advocating to end forced separation

In April 2018, the Trump administration launched a zero-tolerance policy to deter illegal immigration at the southern border of the United States. Thousands of children were separated from their parents and placed under the care of the US Department of Health and Human Services. National and international outrage prompted President Trump to sign an executive order ending the policy, and activism from diverse groups was a key. Child and adolescent psychiatrists have a critical role in raising awareness and mobilizing efforts to protect children and their families.
